What Happens in a 1-2-1 Personal Training Session in Archway?
If you have never had a coach before, booking personal training in Archway can feel like a leap into the unknown. Will they shout at you? Will you be out of your depth? Will you spend an hour doing burpees while someone counts? At Dowe Dynamics the answer to all three is no. A 1-2-1 session here is structured, calm and focused on you. To take the mystery out of it, here is what a typical session actually looks like from the moment you walk through our blue shopfront.
Before the session: knowing why you are there
Good coaching starts before the first rep. Ahead of your first session, your coach will want to understand:
- What you want to achieve, in your own words
- Your training history, including what has and has not worked
- Any injuries or niggles (if you have a medical condition, check with your GP or physio before starting)
- How many days a week you can realistically train
- What your work, sleep and eating look like
This shapes everything that follows. A busy parent from Tufnell Park training twice a week needs a very different plan from a student in Holloway with free afternoons.
Personal training in Archway: a session step by step
1. The check-in (around 5 minutes)
Each session opens with a quick conversation. How did you sleep? How has eating been? Any soreness from last time? This is not small talk. If you slept four hours, the session might be adjusted. If your lower back feels tight, exercise choices change. For clients on body transformation coaching, this links in with the weekly check-ins.
2. The warm-up (around 10 minutes)
The warm-up prepares the exact muscles and joints you are about to train. Expect some light general movement to raise your temperature, then lighter warm-up sets on the first machine. Your coach will be watching how you move here, because it often shows where you are stiff or compensating.
3. The main work (around 35-40 minutes)
This is the core of the session, and where training on proper machines pays off. A back-focused session might run through the Olymp lat pulldown, the seated lever row and the lever power station. Each exercise has a purpose, a target rep range and a weight that should challenge you by the final reps.
Your coach handles the details so you can concentrate on effort:
- Setting seat heights and pads correctly
- Choosing the right load
- Counting reps and controlling rest periods
- Logging every set so next week can be slightly harder
4. Coaching cues throughout
This is the part you cannot get from an app. A good coach tells you what to feel and corrects you in real time. Cues you might hear include “slow it down on the way back”, “chest up, pull with your elbows”, or “pause for a second at the top”. Small corrections like these can make a familiar exercise feel completely different and help you get far more from every set.
5. Cool-down and the plan (around 5 minutes)
The session ends with a short wind-down and a clear plan. What you did today, what to do on the days you train alone, and any nutrition or recovery points to focus on before the next session. Clients working with Artem also get accountability through his coaching app between sessions.
