Weekend Gym Sessions in Archway: Making Saturday and Sunday Count
Not everyone can train during the week. Long hours, childcare, travel or shift patterns can make Monday to Friday a write-off. If that is you, a well-planned weekend gym Archway routine can still deliver real progress. Dowe Dynamics is open 10:00am to 4:00pm on both Saturday and Sunday, and this post shows you how to use those two days properly, including a simple two-day plan you can start this weekend.
## Can you really make progress training only at weekends?
Yes, as long as you are realistic. Two well-planned sessions a week can help many people build strength and muscle, particularly if they are new to training or returning after a break. What matters is:
- **Training each muscle group at least once, ideally twice**, across the two days
- **Pushing your working sets hard**, not just going through the motions
- **Progressing over time**, adding weight or reps
- **Staying consistent**, week after week
Two sessions done well every weekend will beat five sessions that happen once a month.
## Weekend gym Archway hours and why they work
Saturday and Sunday we open from 10:00am to 4:00pm. That six-hour window is a sweet spot:
- You get a lie-in and breakfast before you train
- You are done by lunch or mid-afternoon, leaving the rest of the day free
- Memberships are capped, so the floor stays calm and you get straight onto the machines
Our home is 2-4 Navigator Square, right by Archway station, so it is easy to reach from Highgate, Holloway, Tufnell Park, Crouch End, Kentish Town and Islington, even when weekend engineering works mess with the tube.
## The two-day weekend plan
Because you only have two sessions, each one needs to cover a lot. This plan splits the body so each day is full but manageable, and both days include some leg and back work so you hit major muscle groups twice.
### Saturday: Lower body and pull
1. **Horizontal leg press** - 4 sets of 8 to 12
2. **Standing leg curl** - 3 sets of 10 to 12 each leg
3. **Olymp leg extension** - 3 sets of 12 to 15
4. **Olymp lat pulldown** - 4 sets of 8 to 12
5. **Seated lever row** - 3 sets of 10 to 12
6. **Olymp preacher curl** - 3 sets of 10 to 12
### Sunday: Upper push, legs and core
1. **Olymp chest press** - 4 sets of 8 to 12
2. **Tricep dip machine** - 3 sets of 10 to 12
3. **Lever power station** - 3 sets of a shoulder press or similar movement
4. **Horizontal leg press** (lighter) - 2 sets of 12 to 15
5. **Seated lever row** (lighter) - 2 sets of 12 to 15
6. **Adjustable ab bench** - 3 sets
Each session should take around 60 to 75 minutes. Rest about 90 seconds between sets on the big movements and a bit less on the smaller ones.
## Training back-to-back days without burning out
Saturday then Sunday means less recovery time than most plans. A few ways to manage it:
- **Make Sunday's leg and back work lighter**, as written above, so you are not hammering the same muscles twice in 24 hours
- **Eat enough protein on Saturday**, and get a decent night's sleep
- **Warm up properly** with a couple of lighter sets before your first heavy set each day
- **Listen to your body.** If something feels wrong, ease off, and check with a GP or physio if pain persists
Some members also book a session with Treatments 4 You inside the gym. Dynamic stretching (45 minutes, £45) or a deep tissue massage (50 minutes, £50) can be a nice way to end a weekend of training.
## Making weekday time count too
Even if you cannot get to the gym in the week, small habits help your weekend sessions:
- Walk where you can
- Prioritise protein at each meal
- Get to bed at a reasonable time
- Note your Saturday and Sunday weights so you know what to beat next weekend
If you can occasionally squeeze in a weekday session, we are open 7:00am to 9:00pm Monday to Friday. For a structure with three sessions, see our [three-day gym split for busy Londoners](https://dowedynamics.co.uk/post/three-day-gym-split-busy-londoners).
## Weekend coaching
If you want guidance, our coaches offer 1-2-1 personal training. Ian Dowe, Alberto and Artem can help you get the most from limited time, and Body Transformation coaching adds personalised nutrition and weekly check-ins, which suit weekend trainers well.
